Historic Criminal Trial of Officer Christopher Taylor Underway in Austin

Thu 02 Nov, 2023 Police Brutality

Last week the criminal trial of Officer Christopher Taylor, who stands accused of first-degree murder for fatally shooting Mike Ramos, began in what The Austin Chronicle called “one of the most consequential trials in Austin history.”

In April 2020, Mike Ramos lost his life when Officer Taylor opened fire in the parking lot of the Rosemont Apartment complex in Austin. Mike was unarmed, confused and slowly pulling away from police when the tragic incident occurred.

Attorney Scott Hendler is quoted by The Austin Chronicle expressing his hope that Officer Taylor will be “held accountable” and “prevent [Taylor] who shot and killed two people, from killing someone else’s child.”

Hendler Flores Law is representing Brenda Ramos, the mother of 24-year-old Mike Ramos, in a civil lawsuit against the City of Austin, the Austin Police Department and Officer Christopher Taylor for the death of her only son. Once the criminal case is resolved, Mrs. Ramos hopes to vindicate her son’s civil rights by holding Officer Taylor and the Austin Police accountable for their actions and for policies that result in unjustified and excessive use of force against Austin’s Black and Hispanic communities.
